What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser, for example to remember a choice or count visits. The browser's local storage is used in the same way, and the same rules apply.
Necessary storage
We only store choices you make yourself, in your browser. This does not require consent.
| Name | What it does | Duration | Provided by |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Remembers whether you last used the light or dark view | Until you delete it | Skogbranner.no |
| sb-consent | Remembers your choice about statistics cookies and the consent code | 6 months, then we ask again | Skogbranner.no |
| sb-nudge | Remembers when you closed the “Will you help us reach more people?” window, so it appears at most once a month | At most 30 days | Skogbranner.no |
Statistics cookies (only with consent)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are most useful. The cookies are set only if you tap “Yes please” in the banner. Before you choose, and if you say no, Google Analytics is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google. We do not use the data for advertising. Read more in Google's privacy policy.
| Name | What it does | Duration | Provided by |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Recognises the browser with a random code | 2 years | Google LLC |
| _ga_<ID> | Remembers the state of the session | 2 years | Google LLC |
Your choice and the consent log
To be able to document consent, as Article 7 of the GDPR requires, we store each choice you make in the banner: a random code (the same as shown below), the choice, how you made it (“Yes please”, “No thanks” or the X), the banner version, the page and the time. We do not store names, email addresses or IP addresses. The log is stored with the database service Upstash in Frankfurt (EU), which we use through Vercel, and is deleted automatically after 2 years.
We ask again after 6 months, or sooner if the cookies we use change significantly.
Counting without cookies
We count page views, that is which page is shown and whether on a phone or a computer, as a daily and monthly total. We also count how often the share buttons on the page and on the map are used (Facebook, X, WhatsApp, email, other apps and Copy link), and how often the “Will you help us reach more people?” window is shown, used and closed, on phones and computers. We store only a total per button and month, nothing about who tapped, and nothing in your browser. That is why it does not require consent.
How to block cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. For Google Analytics it is enough to say no in the banner, close it with the X or use “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. The site works just as well either way.
Changes
We update this page when anything changes, with the date at the top. How we otherwise handle personal data is described in the privacy policy.
