Who is responsible
Myrull Media AS owns and runs Skogbranner.no and is the data controller. You can reach us via myrullmedia.no.
What is stored in your browser
Without consent your browser only remembers three things locally, and none of them is used for tracking:
• whether you last used the light or dark view (until you delete it)
• your choice about statistics cookies (for 6 months)
• when you closed the window asking you to share the site (at most 30 days)
See Cookies for the full list.
Statistics (Google Analytics)
If you tap “Yes please” in the banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are used, how many people visit them and from what kind of device. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). If you say no or close the banner, Google Analytics is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google.
We do not use the data for advertising and do not share it with others. Google is our processor and may process the data in the United States, where Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The statistics are kept in Google Analytics for at most 14 months. Read more in Google's privacy policy.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
Consent log and anonymous counting
To be able to document consent, as Article 7 of the GDPR requires, we store each choice you make in the banner: a random code, the choice, how you made it, the banner version, the page and the time. We do not store names, email addresses or IP addresses. The legal basis is the obligation to be able to document consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(c)). The log is deleted automatically after 2 years.
We also count page views (which page, and whether it is a phone or a computer) and how often the share buttons and the “Will you help us reach more people?” window are used, only as daily and monthly totals, without IP addresses or anything else about who you are.
The log and the counts are stored with the database service Upstash in Frankfurt (EU), which we use through Vercel.
Location
If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission first. Your location is used only in your browser to find which municipality you are in. It is not sent to us or anyone else, and it is not stored.
What the servers see
The website is hosted by Vercel. As with any website, your IP address and details of the request (such as the time, page and browser type) are processed in server logs to deliver the site and protect against misuse. Read more in Vercel's privacy policy.
Our servers fetch the satellite data themselves. Your IP address is not passed on.
Services your browser fetches from
To show the map, your browser fetches the base map from CARTO (built on OpenStreetMap), and fire danger maps from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the EU's Copernicus service. They see your IP address, as every website does when it delivers content. Read more at CARTO, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the European Commission.
Sharing
The Facebook, X and WhatsApp buttons are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those services until you tap a button yourself, and then their privacy rules apply. We count how often each button is used, as a monthly total with nothing about you.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct and delete information about you, and to object to its processing. As we have no user accounts, in practice we hold no information about you beyond the server logs, the consent log and, if you said yes, the statistics in Google Analytics. None of them is linked to your name. To see the consent log for you, give us the code shown on the cookies page. Contact us if you have questions.
You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.
Changes
If we start using new services, we will update this page first and ask for consent where the law requires it.
