Wildfires today: live map of forest fires

The map shows possible forest fires in Norway, the Nordic countries and the rest of the world, detected by satellites over the last hours and days, and the forest fire danger today and over the next two days. A mark is a measurement of heat, not a confirmed fire.

The figures for Norway and the Nordic countries update in the map above every time you open the page.

How to read the map

  • Each dot is a place where a satellite measured unusual heat. Its colour and size show how intense the heat is, from yellow (weak) to dark red (extreme).
  • Filled dots are possible forest fires. Rings are heath, grass, wetland or farmland, and grey rings are industry, offshore or volcanoes.
  • Paler dots mean the satellite is less certain about the measurement.
  • The data comes from NASA and is up to about 3 hours behind. Satellites pass only a few times a day, so small and short fires can be missed.

Forest fire danger today

The fire danger layer shows the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's forest fire danger index for today and the next two days. See the danger in your municipality, with the forecast and the rules for fires there. Fire danger in every municipality

Fire ban

From 15 April to 15 September it is forbidden to light a fire in or near forest and other open land everywhere in Norway. That includes disposable grills. Municipalities can impose a total ban when the danger is especially high. All about the fire ban
