Wildfires in Europe now
Live map of possible wildfires in Europe, as detected by satellites over the last hours. Today's fire danger comes from the EU's Copernicus service.
The map shows areas of about 10 × 10 km where satellites measured heat that probably comes from vegetation. These are not confirmed fires, and the data is up to about 3 hours behind.
The fire season in Europe
In southern Europe the wildfire season is at its worst in July and August, but it starts ever earlier. 2025 was the worst season the EU has recorded since 2006: over 1 million hectares burned, almost twice the average, and more than 100,000 hectares had burned by the end of March.
