Wildfires in Greece now
Live map of possible wildfires in Greece, including Crete and Rhodes, as detected by satellites over the last hours. Today's fire danger comes from the EU's Copernicus service.
The map shows areas of about 10 × 10 km where satellites measured heat that probably comes from vegetation. These are not confirmed fires, and the data is up to about 3 hours behind.
The fire season in Greece
The danger is highest in July and August. In summer 2023 large fires hit Rhodes, Corfu and the area around Athens in July, and in August over 94,000 hectares of natural land burned near Alexandroupolis, the most devastating fire recorded in the EU.
