Wildfires in Portugal now

Live map of possible wildfires in Portugal, as detected by satellites over the last hours. Today's fire danger comes from the EU's Copernicus service.

The map shows areas of about 10 × 10 km where satellites measured heat that probably comes from vegetation. These are not confirmed fires, and the data is up to about 3 hours behind.

The fire season in Portugal

The big fires come in summer, especially in August. In 2025 a heatwave set off 22 very large fires in Portugal and Spain almost at once, which together burned 460,585 hectares. The Pedrógão Grande fire in June 2017 killed 66 people.
